Sam Cote (Executive Director)

As the son of Brownie Cote, who purchased the camps in 1920, Sam has literally grown up in the camping business and has made it his life's work. As a child, he was a camper in the majority of the cabins at Camp Lincoln , was a Counselor-In-Training (CIT), and a staff member for a number of summers. While not at the lake for the summers, he grew up in the Twin Cities area and attended Colgate University where he majored in economics, was on the swim team, and was treasurer for his fraternity. He joined his father working full-time for the camps in 1969 and has played a major role in the American Camp Association (ACA) serving as Northland Section president for 2 years and ACA Board member for several terms. He has also been an Association of Independent Camps (AIC) Board member for 3 years. Sam and his wife, Mary Jo, have four children: Kelly, Cathy, Ruggs, and Polly. With 10 grandchildren to date, the Cote family has already fourth generation campers continuing the legacy at Camp Lincoln and Camp Lake Hubert . In his spare time, Sam enjoys sailing, tennis, hiking, and is a member of the Edina Rotary Club.

Bill Jones (Director)

 

Bill's history with Camp Lincoln and Camp Lake Hubert stretches back 47 years to 1960. Prior to camp, Bill earned his undergraduate degree in engineering from Michigan Tech. Since joining camp, Bill has been very active with the American Camp Association (ACA) on the national level. He is currently serving as president of the Northland Section of the ACA, and is a previous member of the ACA National Board of Directors. He has 2 children, Tim and Jordan, and resides in Edina . His passions include construction, motorcycling, traveling, sailing, and working with homeless children .

  • Best Camp Memory : Canoeing in Canada
  • Favorite Camp Meal : Lasagna
  • Hobbies as a kid: I loved wilderness and camping trips!
  • Favorite Camp Value:  EXCELLENCE-I like to strive to always do things better than before.
  • Goofiest thing I've done at Camp: I was kidnapped and held hostage for a special day by the LT's!

Ruggs Cote (Director Camp Lincoln)

As a third generation camp director, Ruggs has followed through with the family passion for camp and its mission with children from around the world. He was a camper for 11 years, completed the Counselor-in-Training program, was an assistant counselor, a counselor, and Head Counselor. He graduated from DePauw University in 1993 where he majored in Economics and was treasurer of his fraternity.  Four years later, he returned to the camps full time. Ruggs proudly continues the Cote Family tradition at Camp with his wife Nancy and their children Christian(2000), Audrey(2001), and Sam(2002).

  • Favorite Camp Activity : Sailing
  • Best Camp Memory : Fire Watch and eating Alaskan Hummingbird
  • Favorite Camp Meal :  Tacos
  • Hobbies as a kid: Sailing, Legos, Tennis

  • Goofiest thing done at Camp: Running the Weenie backwards (in my youth, of course)

Laura Nolan (Director Camp Lake Hubert)

Laura 's connection to Camp Lake Hubert stretches back to her days as a camper on the shores of Lake Hubert .  She was a camper for three years and a summer staff member for five years before joining camp as a full-time director in 2002. She graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Arts. Laura has been very involved with leadership in the American Camp Association (ACA) in such positions on the section board as:   board member, vice president of services, education committee co-chair, general sessions chair for the regional Mid States Conference steering committee as well as a National Council Delegate and a presenter at various camping conferences. Though camp is Laura 's primary passion in life, she is also an avid supporter of the preservation of the environment, the Peace Corps and a fan of Alaska .

  • Favorite Camp Activity : 3-way tie: sailing, horseback riding, & canoe trips to the Boundary Waters
  • Best Camp Memory : Earning my sailing award in rough, windy, weather
  • Favorite Camp Meal : Grilled cheese with tomato soup and rice crispy bars
  • Hobbies as a kid: When I was a camper, my hobbies included down-hill skiing, dance, anything with horses, all day bike hikes, and learning everything I could about nature.
  • Favorite Core Value: Personal Growth and Development …life is an exciting journey and I believe you enjoy it more when you grow a little bit from the experience.
  • Goofiest thing I've done at Camp: I climbed a tree, and had lunch in a TREE!

Andre' Brewer (Director Camp Lincoln)

A native of Kentucky , Andre' (Dre') has been at Camp Lincoln for 17 summers as Counselor, Head Counselor, Associate Director, and Director. He is an alum of DePauw University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. In 2002, he also earned his Master of Arts Degree in Education Administration from the University of St. Thomas .  Prior to joining camp full time, he taught 4th and 5th grade in the Advanced Program at Kerrick Elementary School in Louisville , KY. He is an active member of the American Camp Association (ACA) and currently serves on the National Board of Directors. Too, he serves as a member of the DePauw University Alumni Association Board of Directors. In his spare time, he is a coach for the Minnetonka High School Varsity Competitive Cheerleading Squad in Minnetonka , Minnesota .  Dre' is passionate about making a difference in the lives of campers and being a role model for all.

  • Favorite Camp Activity : Horseback Riding
  • Best Camp Memory: Seeing campers go against the odds and accomplish things they never imagined they could.
  • Favorite Camp Meal: Final Banquet Veggie Burgers, Asparagus and Garlic Mashed Potatoes.
  • Hobbies as a kid: Horseback Riding, Diving, Gymnastics, and Tennis.
  • Favorite Core Value: Personal Growth and Development…It represents why so many of us are at camp. We not only create opportunities for others to grow, but we as directors grow more and more each summer.
  • Goofiest thing I've done at Camp: Going to the Bog more than 18 times in a summer.

Niki Kolb (Assistant Director Camp Lake Hubert)

Niki is the newest member of the Camp Lincoln/Camp Lake Hubert team. Although 2008 will be Niki’s first summer on the shores of Lake Hubert, she has worked in the camping field for over ten years. Niki has held several positions including Activity Director, Teen Leadership Director and Assistant Director at camps in California, Wisconsin and South Africa. She graduated from the University of Pretoria, in South Africa, with a BA degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Information Design. Niki lives in the Twin Cities area with her husband, Chris and their two beagles, Daisy and Marley. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, drawing, cooking, and is a fan of anything on Animal Planet.

  • Hobbies as a kid: Oh, I was most definitely a “crafty” and loved to draw, paint or build things. I also loved the water and was on the swim team throughout school. Another favorite, having grown up in Africa, was trying to spot most of the wild animals when I went on safari with my parents.
  • Favorite Core Value: Quality Relationships – No one quite understands you like your camp friends do! Great friends are almost always a part of your best camp memories and stay with you for life.

Wendy Krueger (Office Manager)

Wendy is joining Camp Lincoln & Lake Hubert as the new kid on the block. She attended camp, literally, for the first time in summer 2006! However, Wendy is no stranger to Camp Lincoln & Lake Hubert she spent the last eleven years working as an Administrative Assistant in the Head of School's office at The Blake School. Wendy is a native of Green Bay , Wisconsin , and moved to the Twin Cities in 1986 to attend the University of Minnesota . She enjoys playing volleyball – indoor and sand – and softball. Wendy is also a true blue Packer fan! Welcome Wendy!!!

  • Favorite Camp Activity: FIMO!!! (Especially making a green and gold “Mighty Packer Mouse”)
  • Best Camp Memory: Second night at camp…hearing loud animal noises coming down the path... “Was it a bear?”
  • Favorite Camp Meal: Are there Johnsonville BRATS? Just kidding… Bill Jones ' Pizza Night!!!
  • Hobbies as a kid: Volleyball, softball, swimming and just having fun.
  • Favorite Core Value: Fun, fun, and more fun!
  • Goofiest thing I have done at camp: Waiting to attend camp for the first time as an adult. How silly is that?

Blake Holman (Staff Coordinator)

Blake has been a part of Camp since 1991, when he attended Family Camp. Two years later, at the age of 9, he was a Gopher Cabin Camper in our two-week program. He returned each summer, until completing the Counselor-In-Training Program in 2001. Blake attended Mercyhurst College in Pennsylvania, earning a BA in Business with a concentration in Sport Marketing. He also earned a minor in Philosophy. During his college years, Blake continued to return to Camp Lincoln, as a member of the staff group. He was a Cabin Counselor for two years, while also heading up the Touch Football Activity. In 2006 & 2007, Blake became one of the 4-Week Division Directors. Prior to joining Camp Lincoln & Camp Lake Hubert Year-Round, Blake managed a home for disabled adults, where he was able to assist some amazing individuals. In his spare time, Blake enjoys managing his many fantasy football, baseball, and basketball teams. Blake also enjoys trying out a new restaurant every week, playing his new Playstation 3, and creating sports algorithms.

  • Favorite Camp Activity: Football, Disc Golf
  • Favorite Camp Memory: Seeing Red Hot Panic perform live during snack time. I downloaded them into my heart.
  • Favorite Camp Meal: Bagel Dogs!
  • Hobbies as a kid: Watching, playing, discussing, and analyzing all sports all of the time
  • Favorite Core Value: Fun: When we achieve the four other core values, then fun is our byproduct.
  • Goofiest thing I have done at camp: Taught somebody else how to sing a song properly. Anyone who has ever heard me sing knows why this concept is so “goofy.”

Jenna Campbell (Marketing Manager)

Jenna Campbell joined our full-time staff in December as Camp Lincoln/Camp Lake Hubert’s Marketing Manager. Jenna will be attending camp for the first time in 2009, but has experience in the camping world. For four summers during high school and college, Jenna spent her summer days as a camp counselor for a Twin Cities YMCA day camp. Campers knew Jenna as Squirt back then! Jenna attended University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where she majored in English with a creative writing emphasis and minored in Business Administration. She is currently attending Metropolitan State University to earn her Masters in Technical Communication. Prior to joining Camp Lincoln/Camp Lake Hubert’s full-time staff, Jenna was a reporter at a daily newspaper and was an administrative assistant and marketing chair at a Twin Cities, public accounting firm. In her spare time, Jenna enjoys listening to live music, traveling and playing tennis.

Stacey Dyer (Director's Assistant)

Stacey hails from Colorado, where she grew up at Sanborn Western Camp, where her father was a director. She joined the Camp Lake Hubert family for 5 years as a camper, including the LT program, and more years on staff when she did everything from counselor, to high ropes activity director. Stacey has returned to the shores of Lake Hubert for many summers assisting with staff training and now works year round from her home in Ft Collins. At camp, Stacey can be found at the barn, at the range, on the waterfront, in the kitchen or even making “monkey bread” for snack. At home, Stacey finds time to work with children doing aquatic therapy. Stacey and her husband Mike, a former staff member at Camp Lincoln, are excited their children Makalynne and Hunter are now old enough to spend part of their summers at Camp Lincoln and Camp Lake Hubert.

  • Favorite Camp Activity: High Ropes
  • Best Camp Memory: Taking the horses for a swim in Lake Hubert
  • Favorite Camp Meal: Chicken patties
  • Hobbies as a kid: Horseback riding
  • Favorite Core Value: Excellence
  • Goofiest thing I've done at Camp: Making 24 loaves of banana bread at one time using camp's 100 year old mixer. Best bread ever and I am sure it was all about the mixer.
