Archery

A very popular activity indeed. High-quality recurve bows and all the necessary equipment is available at both camps for campers to improve their archery skills. Campers will learn safety rules and regulations, parts of the bow and arrow, correct stance, aiming, drawing and releasing. With 15, 20, 30, 40 and 50 yard ranges, campers progress quickly in skill and award achievement.

Baseball/Softball

Our fields are near regulation size, surrounded by beautiful pines and crisp northern air! To promote skill development, drills are performed including cut offs, run downs, pitcher covering first, middle infield player, hitting, grounding, and other basic skills. Camp also has a pitching machine which adds a new challenge and fun to this activity. If you have a favorite glove or batting helmet, bring it along; however, camp does provide gloves and helmets for campers to use.

Crafts

We offer many different types of craft activities that campers can participate in. There’s candle making, drawing, painting, basket weaving, beading, stained glass, wood carving and tie dying. And don’t overlook printmaking, plaster casting, lanyards, pottery, ceramics, photography, & batik – wow, those creative juices can really flow. Campers will have many projects to bring home at the end of camp!

Dance (Camp Lake Hubert)

We offer a variety of dance disciplines including modern, hip-hop, ballet (ballet bars), tap, cheer leading and jazz. Campers who choose dance as an activity will be working with staff who have many years of studio dance experience and have danced at the collegiate level.

Drama (Camp Lake Hubert)

Drama activities bring out the inner actor in everyone! Impromptu games, role playing, creating skits and dressing up in a wide array of costumes is fun for all ages and sessions! The drama activity periods are filled with various ways to “act the part”. Many campers choose to enjoy Drama and sometimes even go on to audition for the musical production of the season!

Drama Musical Productions (CLH-four week campers)

Campers who choose to participate in the Camp Lake Hubert Musical have the opportunity to audition for a lead or can be a part of the ensemble. Each participant will be able to enjoy everything that a musical has to offer! Some of the previous productions include: West Side Story, Annie, Camp Rock, and Grease.

Golf

We also offer golf instruction as a part of our traditional camp program. We are fortunate to have access to Grand View Lodge’s teaching range, just a mile or so from camp. Those who sign up for golf will work various skills including grip, stance, chipping, driving and putting, as well as the rules and regulations. Dedicated golfers will be able to play an occasional round on the Grand View Lodge Garden Course.

Guitar

From beginners to the more advanced, camp is a great place to learn to play guitar! There are several sizes of quality acoustic guitars for all ages. Our skilled staff will teach basic notes and chords and simple songs to get the group strumming to the beat. More experienced musicians can perfect existing skills and learn more advanced techniques. Feel free to bring your own guitar, or our camp guitars are available to use during the activity and during free time. Guitars can be checked out for special uses like vespers or campfires. By the end of the session, campers may have the opportunity to play together at closing campfire.

Gymnastics (Camp Lake Hubert)

Our gymnastics program is focused mainly on low, balance beam work as well as floor exercise, such as tumbling. Gymnastics is a great activity that will teach campers how to spot, work as a team and will also help them to be more agile. Our gymnastic staff have many years of experience in gymnastic programs and are well versed in spotting and instructing kids of all ages

Lacrosse

Lacrosse is taught by collegiate athletes from across the country. The primary focus within the lacrosse program is skill development. The program is structured in a way that gives beginners the chance to develop basic skills while allowing campers with advance skills to improve their technique and team leadership.

Martial Arts

Taught by martial arts specialists, our program covers skill development in various areas including: fighting stance, strikes, blocks, kicks, how to fall, forward rolls, flips, jumps, sweeps self defense, and the overall philosophy of the martial arts.

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking has become a very popular and active program at camp. Our bike shops have bikes of all sizes, helmets and all the equipment needed for repair work and tuning. Whether a beginner or more experience biker, we have both on-road and off-road trails to test all skill levels. Keeping with our dedication to safety in all aspects of camp, everyone who participates in this program must wear a bike helmet. We also provide some adventure trips on bike, that might be day-long trips

Pump Track (At Camp Lincoln)

Our own pump track was developed to test another aspect of the biker: coordination, balance and movement without peddling. The loop design features single and double rollers, jumps, dips, and berms – a fun challenge for the novice or experienced biker.

Horseback Riding - Western Style

Each camp has its own enclosed riding stable, with an experienced string of horses and an eager staff of instructors to help you learn and enjoy this activity. The girl’s camp 25+ horses come from our dude ranch in Arizona, and the boy’s camp 20+ horses are leased from a local stable. Campers will learn riding skills within our various rings, and will also have the opportunity to learn to saddle and bridle, plus all the gates of horsemanship. There’s also feeding, brushing, hygiene & barn care, all a part of horse care. In addition, we have many of trails through wooded pine and birch for true enjoyment of the outdoors on horseback. For safety, campers must wear helmets at all times as well as long pants and sturdy & closed toe shoes (riding or hiking boots are preferred).

Radio (Camp Lincoln)

Our Radio activity serves as a wonderful outlet for any campers interested in sound and voice recording. Campers are able to use both field and studio recording equipment in order to create their own podcasts. Staff members experienced in radio and sound recording are hired each year to help our campers plan, organize, and ultimately create a “radio show”. Overall, Camp Lincoln Radio is a fantastic introduction into sound and voice recording!

Riflery

Riflery has been a popular activity since the early days of the camps. As with all of our other activities, safety is our number one priority. Targets are placed on carriers which are pulled in and out to assure that no camper or staff member crosses the firing line at any time. Campers and staff also wear ear protection. We use .22 caliber rifles on all of our ranges. Campers will learn safety rules, parts of the rifle, rifle care, shooting techniques and stances (such as prone, sit, kneel and standing). Campers will earn awards as they progress in their marksmanship skills, from Promarksman to Distinquished Expert. The Camper to Staff ratio in this activity is 6:1.

Trap Shooting

Just like Riflery, safety is our top priority! With a Camper to Staff ratio of 6:1 in this activity, campers will learn safety rules, parts of the shotgun, shotgun care and shooting technique. We use 20 gauge shotguns, and ear protection is required at all times.

*Campers must be 12 years of age to participate in this activity.

Soccer

Soccer is promoted at camp by qualified coaches from around the world. Emphasis is given to individual skill, team work, rules of the game, and sportsmanship. Our Skill Development program is based on the English School’s Football Association (ESFA) Super-Skills Program. Areas of the Super-Skills Program include kicking, dribbling, heading, passing, shooting, juggling & ball control. Both camps have large soccer fields and regulation goals, as well as a practice area and training grids with mini-goals for small group games.

Tennis

Set in a clearing of pine and birch trees, we have 4 laykold tennis courts at each camp that are kept busy during activity times. Campers will develop skills in all levels of instruction including rules and scoring, serves, volleys, singles and doubles strategy. We do provide rackets, balls and all teaching equipment, though campers are welcome to bring their own rackets for play.
