Where do Staff members come from?
Our staff members come from all over the United States and all over the world. We often have staff from 6 continents, and over 30 different states.
All staff must be at least one year removed, and graduated, from High School. The average age of a staff member is about 21, but our staff ages range from 19-35.
Our cabins are two story log-style cabins. Very unique. They have 3 total sleeping quarters (called chalet’s), a central living room complete with a fireplace and 1 bathroom. 16-24 campers and 4-6 staff members sleep in a cabin. All chalet’s have shelving areas for staff and campers with limited electrical outlets. Bathrooms consist of several toilets, urinals, and sinks. Modern showers are nearby.
Camp Lincoln and Camp Lake Hubert are very selective when it comes to hiring staff. In a given year, we will receive about 450 applications between the two camps and hire about 180-190 of those prospective staff.
What is the weather like at Camp?
Typically the weather in Minnesota is great during the summer. Expect the daytime temperature to be between 70 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit (21-31 Celsius), and almost always sunny!
Yes, Minnesota has more than 10,000 lakes and abundant forests, so we do get some important rain.
The amount of staff training varies depending upon a staff member’s position, although all staff attend our 10 Day Orientation and Staff Development trainings. During this time, we bring in noted speakers from around the country to help educate our staff on child issues, coach conflict resolution and team building techniques, and teach time-management and communication skills. As you can see, camp provides many opportunities to develop leadership skills. All of these skills can be used outside of camp and do make our employees more marketable no matter what career they chose. We also include five days of activity training for staff directing activities, and certification type courses for people leading Archery, Riflery, Trap Shooting, High Ropes, the Climbing Wall, Horseback Riding, and Lifeguarding.
How do I get to Lake Hubert, Minnesota?
Most of our staff members do not come from Minnesota. So on designated Staff Arrival days you can expect many staff to drive or fly into the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport. Our staff coordinator will work with you to ensure that you can get a ride from another staff member, or the Camp Van, up to Lake Hubert, Minnesota.
If I’m international, how can I secure my Visa?
If you’re accepted to work at Camp Lincoln and Camp Lake Hubert and you live in another country, then Camp will work with an international agency to sponsor you for your Visa.
How much money would I make as a staff?
Salaries differ depending on many factors including length of time worked, experience, certifications, and position. Most staff should expect to earn between $2,000 and $4,000 (plus room and board) during the summer depending upon those factors.
How does a Camp salary compare to a standard 9-5 summer job?
Remember, one of the keys to working at Camp for staff is the fact that we provide three meals per day, as well as a place to live, for everyone on Camp. Because you are on camp working with your Campers most every day, you can end up saving most of your money by the end of the summer.
What are the dates you would need me there? When would I be done working for the summer?
The minimum date range for all staff would be a start date of June 6th and an end date August 12th. Staff who are available and wish to earn more money can begin arriving at Camp as early as Mid May, and leave as late as Early September. We base when people begin and finish working on the preferences of the staff and the needs of our Camp.
What is the camper age range? How long do they stay at Camp?
The ages of our campers ranges from 8-17. Traditionally our campers stay overnight for 4 weeks, though many stay for 2 weeks as well.
How is the food? Do you have Veggie options? Does camp accommodate special dietary needs?
The food at camp is good with different food options at every meal. We do provide a designated vegetarian option during all meals, with salad bars in every dining hall. Other needs may be able to be met; be sure to discuss this with a director.
On arrival and departure days staff members wear their Staff Shirt (provided by Camp). Throughout the summer we just ask that staff dress in an appropriate and camp professional manner.
Is there a tattoo or piercing policy?
We ask that staff working at camp keep their tattoos covered and keep body piercings removed at all times while on Camp. Females are allowed to keep basic stud earrings in their earlobes.
Are any certifications necessary to be a staff member?
We require all staff on Camp to be Adult CPR/ Basic First Aid certified. We also require staff members in certain positions to be Lifeguard certified. Camp will provide pre-summer training to staff that need the certification. Camp also gives additional compensation to any staff that arrive with the certification.
You do not need to bring your car, although staff members have found having a car for days off to be beneficial. Camp does provide a shuttle service into town for staff members on their days off.
Staff are paid every two weeks by direct deposit.
Staff members have several options. We have coin operated laundry machines on site for staff use. Staff also can go into town to one of the local laundromats to do their laundry during their time off.
During a given day there are four activity periods. Each of those activity periods is one hour long, with the focus being skill and character development. Staff members are assigned to work at activities based on their skills, abilities, and the demand for staff in that area. For more information on the specific activities we offer, please click here.
How much time off do you get? What do staff members do on their time off?
Like most residential camp jobs, time off is limited. During a four week session, staff will get 3 Early Evenings (EE’s) and 2 Day’s Off (DO). During an Early Evening, staff get off at 5:30 pm and are to be back by 10pm that night. During a Day Off, staff will be off at 5:30 pm and are to be back by 10pm the NEXT night. Typically staff spend their time off doing laundry, going out to eat at local restaurants, or going to the movies. On Day’s Off staff occasionally go down to Minneapolis to catch a Minnesota Twin’s game, visit Valleyfair amusement park, or go to the Mall of America (the largest mall in the US).
Can I use my cell phone at camp? Will my phone work at camp?
You can use your cell phone at Camp only on your time off and only in designated cell phone areas. Reception is generally pretty good depending upon your service provider.
