15 REASONS TO COME TO THE 110th ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND
Originally featured in our 2019 Alumni Railsplitter. Remind yourself 10 reasons to join us August 23-25th for the 110th Anniversary, plus 5 more reasons.
1. CAMP FRIENDS
I am sure you have camp friends all over the world. It can be more than difficult trying to get everyone to come together at the same time. The 110th is the perfect excuse for you and all your camp friends to drop everything and come together.
There is nothing that can replace the feeling, smells, and sounds of camp. Coming back to a favorite place can bring memories flooding back. Let those memories in and feed the camper spirit that has stayed with you since your last time at camp.
Remember all those awards you went for or the crafts you used to make. Well, you can try them all over again. We will be running our most popular activities during the weekend. So you can relive that bullseye or make the perfect tie-dye swirl.
4. S’MORES AND CAMPFIRES
Nothing beats the smell of the campfire and the mess of a s’more. Get your fill of both during the weekend’s celebrations.
This might not have been the first thing to come to mind, but it’s true! People from all over the world with different backgrounds and interests have walked through our gates for 110 years. You may find yourself reconnecting with old friends or meeting new ones who, I am sure, will always stick out a leg to help fellow camp alumni.
6. SEE THE STARS AT NIGHT
You will not believe how you could spend another night without this view. We cannot promise Northern Lights, but we can promise an amazing view of those twinkling stars. Will your viewpoint be the Observation Deck or the Athletic Field?
7. CAMP SONGS
Everyone has their favorite camp song. We know you will probably agree that hearing that song or singing it on campgrounds make it exponentially better. Sing your favorite camp song right where you first learned it.
8. SEE RUGGS COTE RUN THE WEENIE BACKWARDS
It might happen….It might not….but you have to be there to find out.
We are going to have a ton of merchandise to purchase. You will be able to purchase items only available at the brick and mortar camp store and new specialty items. Along with our 110th t-shirt and sweatshirt, we will also have posters and prints of illustrated camp landmarks. These prints are specially made and ordered for this event.
10. THE “LUCKY ME” RUN
You can help a child experience the delight and gift that is camp just by participating in the “Lucky Me” Run. Runners will receive a commemorative “Lucky Me” Run t-shirt and a runner’s bag filled with goodies. All race fees go to our scholarship fund and support those who cannot normally afford to send their child to Camp Lincoln or Camp Lake Hubert. Pay it forward and give someone the gift of our camp.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
11. STAY IN A CABIN
If you choose to register for the Total Camp Experience then you get to stay in a camp cabin…in a camp bed….with your own camp green stand. If you still aren’t sold, don’t forget that you can hear loons at night and wake up with the sun. Other registration options include the Basic Camp Experience (everything except lodging) and our Saturday Only (access to the camps, festivities, and activities on Saturday only).
12. YOUR TASTEBUDS
We plan to pull out the stops for our meals. You can expect a BBQ on the Athletic Field, a visit from Evelyn Young’s Chocolate Sauce, a Taco Bar, Grand View Lodge Catering, and a twist on the camp tradition of “Birthday Cakes”. What else? Big Axe Brewing Co. is sponsoring us by featuring their brews the entire weekend. Big Axe is a Nisswa brewing company with all different kinds of brews and imaginative blends that could please any craft beer drinker.
13. RALLY DAY
Bust a move at our Rally Day Celebration on Saturday night. We plan to play hits from all the decades. If the weather is nice enough we might just have Rally Day on the old tennis courts where the Rally Day of yesteryear was hosted. Check out our Spotify Playlists for a glimpse at some hits that will be played.
14. SEE THE CAMP IMPROVEMENTS
As much as camp stays the same, there are still improvements made from time to time. Come to camp and you can see the New Camp Lincoln Recreation Center and Camp Lake Hubert Dining Hall for yourself.
15. OLD FILM REELS
Camp is embarking on a very exciting project. We are in the midst of restoring our old film reels and transferring them to a digital format. We have countless reels filled with history and faces from generations, starting as early as 1920. As film reels get older, the film will start to deteriorate. We want to start the process now and save our camp’s history. At the event, we will have a movie showing area for the film reels we have been able to restore up to that point. We will be asking for donations specifically to aid us in this process. Help us to get this film out of the reels and on the screen.
