Camp Lincoln and Camp Lake Hubert Staff Offers Tried and True CommunicationTips

As the camp season gets closer, tne of the most common question is, "How will I stay in touch with my camper?" There's no need to worry about this as Camp Lincoln For Boys and Camp Lake Hubert for Girls staff are experienced at helping both campers and parents navigate this first-time life change.

Camper communication is about more than staying connected, it's about creating space for growth. For many campers, this is their first extended time away from home. Learning to navigate independence is an important and valuable part of the camp experience. It's a balancing act for both parents and campers. Below are key ways we have setup communication and we know it works.

Communicating on Arrival Day with a Phone Call or Voice Message

Campers and Counselors

If your camper is flying to camp, you will receive a phone call upon their safe arrival on camp property. During this call, your camper will share their cabin assignment and let you know they've arrived safely. Please be prepared to receive this call, as there will not be additional phone calls until the end of the session. If you miss this call, your camper will leave a voicemail.

Communicating through Traditional Mail

There's nothing quite like receiving a handwritten letter at camp. Mail call is often a highlight of the day, and your letters can become treasured keepsakes long after summer ends.

Communicating with e-Letters

For quick and easy communication, e-Letters are your best option. Parents/guardians listed in the primary and alternate households in your CampInTouch account can send a free e-Letters. Please ensure your account information is up to date. Campers are busy and fully engaged in their daily activities so we encourage families to set expectations ahead of time. Counselors encourage campers to respond, but replies are not guaranteed outside of designated Camper Write periods.

Here's how it works:

Via Desktop (CampInTouch)

  1. Log into your account: https://clclh.campintouch.com/MyAccount.aspx
  2. Navigate to Online Community → Email
  3. Select your camper name and write your message
  4. To attach a reply sheet, check the box: "I would like a handwritten e-Letter reply to this email."(optional)
  5. Send your e-Letter (printed daily at 10AM Central)

Via Mobile (Campanion App)

  1. Log into the Campanion App using your CampInTouch credentials
  2. Navigate to the Letters section in the side navigation menu
  3. Tap the pencil icon in the upper right corner to create a new message
  4. Select your camper name and write your message
  5. To attach a reply sheet, check the box: "I would like a handwritten e-Letter reply to this email."(optional)
  6. Send your e-Letter (printed daily at 10AM Central)
  7. Check the Replies tab for responses and enable push notifications in your settings for real-time notifications when your camper responds.

Photo Updates

We will upload photos daily to Campanion and will be visible in your CampInTouch account. If you have yet to upload a training photo of your camper, please do so at your convenience as this will prevent scrolling through the daily photo albums. We cannot guarantee a photo of your camper every day. When your camper is off property for camp trips or registered for double blocks you'll see less photos of your camper.

Communication Tips for Parents

A few small mindset shifts can make a big difference:

  1. Focus on encouragement, not reassurance. Instead of saying, "I miss you so much," try, "I'm excited for all the new things you're trying!"
  2. Celebrate independence. Let your camper know you're proud of them for being away and growing.
  3. Keep it light and positive. Share fun updates from home, but avoid anything that might make them feel like they're missing out.
  4. Don't worry about response time. No news is often good new because your camper is busy, engaged and having fun.
  5. Trust that they are building memories and skills.

Important Care Package Policy

We know sending care packages comes from a place of love. However they can unintentionally lead to homesickness or comparison among campers. For this reason, care packages are not permitted.

  • Any packages received will be returned.
  • Postage will be charged to your camper's account.
  • If your camper needs something from the packing list, please contact:
    • Andre (Camp Lincoln): andre@lincoln-lakehubert.com
    • Stacey (Camp Lake Hubert): stacey@lincoln-lakehubert.com

Approval is required before sending any items.

Counselor Connection: When You Need an Update

If you'd like a personal update, you're always welcome to call the camp office. Our team will coordinate with your camper's counselor to connect with you. This can provide peace of mind and help you understand how your child is adjusting.

Staying connected during summer is important, but so is giving your camper the chance to build confidence, independence and resilience. This balance may feel new at first, but trust the process. Your camper is growing in ways that will last far beyond the summer. When they return home, you'll have so much to talk about.
